This is another kitbash which I was given recently and thought I’d make a bit of a start on turning it into a finished item. The original idea was for an Akira style ship from the Movie era, plus the original designer didn’t like the Akiraprise and wanted to turn it into something else.
The main saucer is a resin NX-01 which has been grafted to the nacelles from a Futura (I think) Constellation class model. There is a roll bar, but not 100% sure where that part came from.
Finally got a couple of tweaks done on the Delta Quadrant Bonaventure Class I reviewed an age ago and took some final pictures of it. It was a lovely build, hardly any clean up of the parts themselves and the decals went on nicely. The decals are a bit pixelly but give a great effect to the build.
Recently purchased the newly released Cyclone Class Carrier in 1:2500 scale from Multi-Verse Models which looked like an interest and quite different ship to the norm. Del (who is Multi-Verse Models) couldn’t have been more helpful and I ended up getting both the original and refit versions since the postage was the same for 1 or both. Each kit is $25 and the postage for both to the UK was $12.75, cheaper than delivery within the UK for some companies). And they got here in a week, which is pretty good going.
The kits are hand made masters, rather than being 3D prints like the Bonaventure. The quality of the original and the casting is absolutely first rate and there is no flash, airbubbles or misalignment of the moulds. In fact these look pretty much like you could assemble them straight off with no sanding or filling.
So here is what you get.
The model comes in a zip lock bag with a professionally laid out colour insert.
And a bit of painting pretty much finishes this one off. I’m going to apply a very think wash to the recessed panel underneath the roll bar just to get the detail to pop a little bit and then it’s definitely done.
Yet another 1:2500 scale Star Trek ship that I’m starting (must get a few more finished up as they only need a few tweaks on some), which this time is from the newly released Movie set which includes the Enterprise refit, Reliant and K’Tinga. All are new mouldings and they’re better than the old ones. The Enterprise has now raised panel lines now and the Reliant is an almost perfect fit. They also come with full decals, so no mucking about printing out decals and trying to fit them to the size and shapes that are needed.
Went with a plain white background to get the decals to pop the best and started applying them last night. Just the top done for now but they went on really nicely and responded well to Micro Set and Micro Sol, which was needed just to get them to conform properly. I took a scan of them first so I could run my own for 2 other Miranda class resin models I have (one will be a Lantree style with no roll bar and one might wait for a Saratoga conversion kit which is due to appear).
I would have gone for a more obscure ship than the Reliant but the name and registry is printed with the wallpaper decals so decided to use these anyway and will need to do some digital editing to get different details when I run my own decals based on these.
I was given this little kitbash by a friend and so I can’t claim to have come up with the design itself. It is a cut down saucer from the 1:2500 set coupled with nacelles from the Constellation class kit which was released by Futura (quite cheap at one point but pricey now). So a simple little build essentially and one that had sat in Mark’s stash for quite some time.
